How much sugar should I eat?
In Australia and New Zealand there is no specific target amount of sugars that we are advised to eat. Instead our dietary guidelines say to limit our intake of added sugars, and choose food and drink with little or no added sugars. This is in order to maintain a healthy body weight.
The World Health Organisation recommends we should have no more than 10% of our daily energy from free sugars. This is equivalent to about 12 teaspoons of free sugar a day.
